Your Teen Isn't a Problem to Solve. They're a Relationship to Build.
Learn the emotional intelligence skills that help you communicate, connect, and navigate conflict with your teenager without constant arguments, lectures, or walking on eggshells.
You Used to Know How to Reach Your Child. What Changed?
One day, your child wanted to tell you everything.
Now…
- A simple question turns into an argument.
- Advice is met with an eye roll.
- Your teenager shuts down when you try to talk.
- You find yourself repeating the same things over and over.
- You worry that you’re becoming more distant.
- You sometimes don’t recognize the person standing in front of you.
- And after another difficult conversation, you wonder, “Am I doing this wrong?”
The relationship has changed, and the way you respond needs to change as well. You might notice that the strategies that worked when your child was younger may no longer work.
You need new tools for a new stage of the relationship.
EQ for Parents of Teens and Tweens
You don’t have to choose between being your teenager’s parent and being connected to them.
Adolescence is an entirely new stage. It brings with it new emotions, new pressures, a growing need for independence, and a changing parent-child dynamic. You need to be prepared for it.
Our team is designing a course with live calls to help you navigate this stage. In it, you’ll find out how to:
- Understand the changing relationship
- Regulate before you respond
- Stop the escalation cycle
- Communicate so your teenager actually hears you
- Repair after difficult moments
- … and much more
This course will be limited to a small group so we can make sure you get the assistance you need.

Your EQ Guide
Hi, I’m Claudia LeBaron Islas
I’m an emotional intelligence educator and coach who believes that some of our most important human skills aren’t taught nearly enough.
I’ve spent years helping people understand the connection between emotions, communication, relationships, and behavior.
And I’ve seen the same principle repeatedly:
When we change the way we understand ourselves and respond to others, our relationships can change too.
Currently, I’m working on creating a course to give parents practical emotional intelligence tools they can use during one of the most challenging and important stages of their child’s development: the tween and teen years.
You don’t need to have all the answers.
You just need better tools for navigating the moments when the answers aren’t obvious.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this therapy?
No. This is an educational course focused on emotional intelligence, communication, and relationship skills. It isn’t a substitute for mental health treatment or family therapy.
What age range is this for?
The course is designed primarily for parents of tweens and teenagers (ages 10-20). Although parents of children of any age can benefit from this program.
What if my teenager won't participate?
They don’t have to. The course is designed for you, the parent. You can begin changing how you show up in the relationship without requiring your teenager to take the course.
What if we have serious conflict?
The course/program can help with everyday relationship and communication challenges. If there are serious safety concerns, abuse, severe mental health concerns, or other issues requiring professional intervention, seek appropriate professional support.
How much time does the course take?
The lessons are designed to be practical and manageable for busy parents. You can work through them at your own pace.
Will this stop my teenager from arguing with me?
No—and that’s not the goal.
Your teenager will still have opinions, emotions, disagreements, and bad days.
The goal is to help you navigate those moments with greater emotional intelligence so conflict doesn’t automatically become disconnection.
Can my school or organization have access to this course?
Absolutely. We are designing a just-for-schools version that gives administrators and educators access to the EQ for Educators program.
